I arrived in Milan at the end of February when the city started with the energy of another autumn fashion week. The coming days have already been published: shows, appointments, dinner and a little shopping when I was lucky. It was the marathon plan that leaves little space for silence. But stay in the Principe di Savoia Has a way of alleviating the pace.
Although it is technically a large hotel – 301 rooms, a large facade, several restaurants, an incredible spa and gym – it never feels that way. Somehow it is still intimate, with a lobby that is so inviting, feels less like travel and more like home. The hotel is only easy to rush from the fashion rush -a few minutes by car from the cathedral, i.e. it is far enough to exhale, but close enough that they are never too late.
In a week that is anything but routine, my week in the Principe gave me an appearance of one. Every morning started in the same way: with coffee and fruit for breakfast on the ground floor against an orange velvet cabin. Every night ended in the same way: embedded in the corner of the hotel’s lobby bar with a glass of wine and my colleague in Crime, Accessoires Director Miguel Enamorado. Miguel is much longer in the Principe than I do. When we put ourselves in our second glasses of wine, he told me a long time ago stories over the seasons when there was a party in the lobby, in which models and designers mingled with editors and stylists.
It may be a little quieter now, but it still offers the best people who watch after a long day full of shows. When our bottle was finished, I pulled back to the bed. I know that sounds dramatic, but it was the best bed I have ever slept in. The sheets were always cool and the pillows were just right. After twelve -hour days there is nothing better than putting yourself into this kind of comfort. Except, of course, for room service that goes hand in hand with it.
