The billionaire Amazon, Jeff Bezos, and former television journalist Lauren Sánchez have arrived in Venice when they prepare to bind the knot to a wasteful three -day celebration that the Lagoon City has divided.
The number of celebrities and other members of the world’s superrich will also join the couple in Italy and arrive at superyachts and private jets.
Bezos, the four-rich person in the world, was discovered on Wednesday by a Reuters reporter in which he entered the exclusive Amaper Hotel am Canal in Aman Venice, where many of the celebrities will remain. His future wife was later spotted by photographers.
It is expected that more than 90 private jets end up in Venice before the celebrations officially begin on Thursday, and bring guests to an event that some have referred to the “wedding of the century”, and should include everything from Pyjama parties to elegant dinner.
One of the first guests who arrived were Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, her husband Jared Kushner and her children. The family lives in St. Regis near the Square of St. Mark, one of a variety of five-star hotels that were booked by around 200 wedding guests.
According to reports in the local press, some of the lowest invitations arrived earlier. Arience, a 60-meter yacht by the American fund manager and Amazon investor Bill Miller, which was moored by ST Mark’s at the beginning of this week.
Kismet, a superyacht that Shahid Khan, a Pakistani-American billionaire and owner of Fulham FC, belonged to the city.
The authorities in the Venice carry out a large safety operation, including Marco Polo Airport, since the concerns about geopolitical instability and threats from the NO Space for Bezos campaign group clog the channels with inflatable crocodiles to hinder guests.
Other VIPs, which are believed to be on the guest list, are Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, Eva Longoria and Orlando Bloom and possibly Bill Gates, Mick Jagger and Elton John.
If the sound of suitcases with wheels along the narrow streets in Venice is one of the Bugbears of the constantly dwindling group of residents of the city, the local newspapers have warned that they have to be prepared for the stacks of luggage, which the many outfits that they say, for what they say, are needed, are “a -act”.
Details of the celebrations are strictly under closure and all employees involved were warned not to mention the wedding when speaking on the phone.
However, it is believed that the couple in San Giorgio Maggiore, a basilica from the 16th century designed by the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, which is located on the Venetian island of the same name. The guests will admire the artistic jewels of the Basilica, including Tintorettos The Last Supper, and enjoy a concert in the amphitheater of the tiny island and push through its kilometer long labyrinth.
The most important wedding reception is expected to take place in Arsenale on Saturday, a historical complex of shipyards, surrounded by paved walls. The large party was originally supposed to take place in a 16th century building in the center of the city, but was switched over for security reasons.
The Wedding, Said to Be Costing € 40m- € 48m (£ 34m- £ 41m), is the most high-profile to take place in Venice Since George and Amal Clooney Were Married in the City in 2014. But what the clooneys were welcomed, the Bezos Nupials Haven Far More Contentiaus, with. Demonstrators say that the event endangers that the World Heritage Site, which has suffered from the effects of excessive tourism for a long time, suffered into a playground for the rich.
Greenpeace Italia and the British activist group everyone hates Elon on Monday at the Square of St. Mark a huge banner with a picture of laughter from Bezos and a sign: “If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more taxes.”
A similar banner was held on a huge crane in front of the Hotel Danieli on Tuesday evening, where some of the guests spend the night as part of a protest that is dressed by extinction rebellion activists as Robin Hood.
“If a person can buy Venice for their marriage, it is a person who has an unimaginable amount of wealth and could therefore pay even more taxes,” said Jorge Molina, spokeswoman for the group. “We ask that the rich are taxed more to give the planet hope.”
Demetrio, which was born in Venice, sat on a bench near St. Marks and said that he was more angry about the demonstrators than with Bezos. “I missed the water taxi house last night because the station was closed to the Danieli Hotel,” he said. “We always had rich people here, what about the doges? Rich people should be able to spend their money as they want. The demonstrators are only jealous that they have no such wealth.”

A local artist known as Picchio said: “I don’t really know who this Bezos scholarship is, but what’s going on when he gets married here? It is a beautiful city where I can get married – I also married here.”
Venice’s millionaire mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, said that the wedding would bring great wealth to the city and condemned the demonstrators as “shameful”. Simone Venturini, the city’s tourism council, said that the objections expressed by “a few dozen professional demonstrators” were driven by the desire for the media’s attention. “Every year we organize hundreds of events and celebrations, many of which have an even greater impact on the city,” he added.
Bezos will make considerable charities, including EUR 1 million for a project that the Lagoon system from Venice is investigating, reports in the Corriere Della Sera newspaper and the Ansa news agency.
